The Novartis collaboration process has been structured to permit thorough and thoughtful review by a team of scientific and business experts to provide responses in a timely and efficient manner.
All major therapeutic and technical areas have a dedicated Strategic Alliance Manager, who is an expert in the field and manages the entire evaluation and collaboration process.
The Strategic Alliance Manager:
- Identifies the company or academic center.
- Leads or, in later-stage projects, supports Pharma Business Development & Licensing negotiations.
- Manages the relationship with our collaborators over the long term to ensure an interactive and productive relationship.
Key stages of our process
The aim of Strategic Alliances is to conduct a rapid and efficient, but thorough evaluation of every potential opportunity:
- First, we evaluate non-confidential data.
- If we decide to proceed in the review process, companies are invited to present to a scientific team.
- If appropriate, a confidentiality agreement (CDA) is signed, confidential data is reviewed, and scientific, legal and financial due diligence is conducted.
In some cases a material transfer agreement (MTA) is put in place to permit in-house evaluation of a compound or technology.
- Subject to internal review, we then proceed to negotiation and contract finalization.
After contract signing, the Strategic Alliance Manager remains actively involved with the collaboration to ensure its mutual success.
